Dream and Believe

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.

– Anatole France

This goes so along with blogging. Everyone has to act a certain way and plan things out. If you don’t dream and believe while you’re acting and planning, it is definitely not the same. I believe in myself 100 % and I dream one day that this blog will be one of the most popular blogs on the Internet. I am better than everyone. That is the type of mentality a person needs in order to succeed in life and fulfill their dreams.

Staying the course

Staying the course is one of the main objectives of many new blogs, including this one. I mean I know I am not making any money at the moment and I still have to post on a regular basis. This blog is just over a month old and I believe if a blog can survive for 3 months, you’re good to go. The reason for this is by then, the blog will be getting regular traffic and some money will be earned. I can put ads up now but my way of thinking is that once I have built enough traffic, I can make the more money in less time in the future.

Another note is staying the course also applies to school. There is about 3 weeks left in my semester and as you know a lot of things get piled up at the end and you don’t want to do these things at all. By staying the course, you will be rewarded by getting better grades and also you will realize that you can accomplish anything once you put your mind and effort into it.

Make your dreams a reality

I came across the following quote by B. Raman while browsing the internet:

” Life is a tragedy for dreamers, a comedy for doers and reality for achievers.”

The quote is self explanatory. If you don’t go after you goals, you won’t achieve them. Having said that, you cannot aim for crazy goals. “I want to be a millionaire overnight.” The only way you are going to achieve that is by hitting the lottery and how many people actually hit the lottery. Good luck with that! If you want your goals to be a reality, the formula is simple: Hard work multiplied by hard work = success.
Nothing in life comes easy. Keep working hard and believe that you can reach it and anything you put your mind to will become a reality. I will leave with the following thought: Actions speak louder than words!

Hard Work

If you want to succeed in anything you do, you have to work hard at it. In order to get a good grade in school, you must study for the exam. In order to get a promotion, you need to work your ass off. The same concept applies to blogging. The more effort you put into your blog, the greater returns you will get.

When I say hard work, that doesn’t mean just do the minimum requirements to get something accomplished. The reason most blogs are so popular (John Chow, Shoemoney, Zenhabits) is because they go out of their way to share something they believe in.

So next time you think you are not expecting returns, just keep working hard. Hard work never goes to waste.

5 ways to getting things done

I know a lot of people out there want to get things but never end up getting around to doing them. I am definitely one of those people. Here are 5 ways to get things done:

1. Have an agenda

You should know what you want to get accomplished on a given day. If you have no clue, then you won’t get anything done at all.

2. Write it down

This works great because you constantly have that reminder in front of you of the things you need to get done.

3. Prioritize

You should always write down the order of importance of the tasks that need to get done. You can either use a number system ( 1 to 5, 1 being the most important) or you can write down the list in order of importance.

4. Don’t overload

If you need to get 10 things in a given week, it is a lot easier to do 2 things each day over a 5 day period rather than trying to do all of them on the same day.

5. Walk away

When you are not in the mood to do something, just walk away. Walking away gives you a fresh perspective on things and you get it done faster.

Benefits of being mentioned on JohnChow.com

John Chow wrote a post on how much would dinner cost at Benihanna. He also ran a contest by asking his readers how much the total bill was? I asked Zac Johnson how much the bill was and in the end I did not win but I did get mentioned as the evil award for asking Zac. In return, I received almost 60 hits in first day and more to come in the future.

Reason this is so beneficial for me:

  • John Chow will remember my name any time I want to mention something to him.
  • I will receive multiple number of hits from JohnChow.com
  • I wanted to John Chow to know who I am and now he knows.

I know this isn’t a big win for me but its a start. Anytime you are mentioned by a famous blogger in your niche, it is a big win for me. I have only been blogging for less than a month and being recognized by John Chow is a great start. Let’s see if I can get mentioned by Shoemoney and Problogger.

What motivates me part 2

I wrote earlier about what motivates me part 1. I am not sure how many parts this will have but here is number 2.

A lot of the times people act their shit when they have something and they brag about it and in the process, they somehow just piss me off and this is a big motivating factor in telling them that listen you’re nothing and the only way to do this is to be better than whoever they are.

Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan is one of the greatest basketball players of all time and the only way he got where he was is by working hard and feeding off the negative energy he was receiving. I want to be the Michael Jordan of the blog world. I know I have long ways to go but if I keep up the great work ethic and follow my dreams, I will reach there.

My parents

This is by far the biggest motivating factor for me. My parents have sacrificed so much for me and my brother. I remember times when they would take me and my brother to McDonald’s and they would buy us food but they would not eat themselves. If that isn’t love, I don’t know what love is. The biggest reason I want to be a successful person in life is so I can take care of my parents and let them know everything they missed due to me and my brother. Kids these days don’t give a crap about their parents and just brush them off like they any other person. Parents are the number one person I am where I am today and I will never forget that.

The # 1 key to success

Thomas Watson, Founder of IBM, had the following quote.

“The way to succeed is to double your failure rate.”

The above quote is so true. Unless you do not try new things, you will not succeed. If one product or a blog/website or anything is a success, why can’t something else be a hit. My philosophy in life is to have as many businesses as possible that are successful and legal. Unless you do not give a new business a try, how do you know if it will succeed or not. The first step is to actually think outside the box and see how you can make more money in different things. You should never put all your marbles into one project. Spread the marbles out and if one project fails, you will still have marbles left over.

Setting realistic goals

There are a lot of people that would like to make the money that John Chow and Shoemoney make but in reality, John Chow and Shoemoney are the top 1 % earners in the blogging world. I would love to make what they make right now but in order for me to do that, I have establish this blog and set smaller goals so I can reach my ultimate goal of making $10,000+ per month off this blog.

Setting smaller goals

In order for me to get to where I want to be, I have to set smaller goals such as making $500/month and then $1,000/month and so on. In order for me to get there, I have to remember what I do best: blog on a regular basis. This is one thing that most people do not do and this is why they do not succeed in making the money they want to make.

I know in the end everyone is capable of doing things but it’s just that they do not want to put the effort into blogging or anything for that matter. I am where I am today because I have worked hard to achieve the things that are important to me (Getting a bachelor’s degree, doing good in school)

Have a partner in crime

Another thing to have in reaching goals is a person that motivates you or someone who is trying to reach at the same spot you do. You have no idea what a little competition can do for someone. I am a very competitive person and I do not need anyone to motivate to reach my goals but it does not hurt when someone says, ” You can do it Vik”.

What motivates me part 1

There are a lot of things that motivate me in life. I don’t know how many parts this series of post will be so this will be named part 1. The following are just some things that motivate me:

Haters

There are a lot of people that hate for no reason. When people say that you can’t do something, you want to prove them wrong. This is one of the biggest reasons for me to stay motivated. I want to prove them wrong when they say you can’t do something.

Goals

If you don’t have goals that you want to accomplish or reach, you are not going to get very far in life. For example, my goal is to have $100,000 in my bank by the end of 2008. I know that seems like a lot but if I have save little by little, I can reach there.

More posts on what motivates me will be coming shorty.
