8 things I have learned at work

Posted by: vikdulat on: December 4, 2008

There is no such thing as a small mistake.  This hols true especially for accounting.  If you add an extra zero to an invoice or a number, it can totaly change the transaction. (For example, 100 can become 1000 by adding a zero)

1.  It’s all about about organizing - I use folders, trays, label makers to ensure that I cam organized and that of my boss asks for something, I know exactly where it is.

2. Communication is HUGE – We have so much paper work and information going in and out that if someone placed a paper somewhere or already paid an invoice, we need to know.

3.  Work hard or go home – This is our motto at work.  To put it into perspective, let’s say you have a guest writer for your blog.  For simplifying, you will pay them $30 per article.  You obviously want them to write great articles and put in the effort and research needed.  The same goes for work.  You are not forced to be there.  You are there by choice.

4.  Go the extra mile – I am a salary worker and I am supposed to work from 7-4:30 pm.  However, there are always instances when I will come in at 6:30 to get an early start to the day.  (Also, I do not leave t 4 pm just because I came in at 6:30 am)

5. You are appreciated - Even though my superiors do not tell me every day that I do a great job or that they appreciate me, I know my work is appreciated.

Ask yourself why - Everything I do at work or everyday, I ask why do I do it or is there a better more efficient way to do it.  The more aware you are, the better off you are.

7.  Work environment is crucial – I have been working for about 2 months now but it feels like 2 years.  The reason I feel this way is because my co-workers are a blast to work with and everyone helps each other out.

8.  You will make mistakes – I hate making mistakes but you learn from them.  I wrote a cheque in USD (US Dollars) when it was supposed to be in CDN (Canadian Dollars).  I know now that I will never make that mistake again.  It’s all about learning from your mistakes.

Good post, but if 2 months of work feels like 2 years ,it may be time for more play…

I didn’t mean that 2 months of work felt like 2 years. I meant that it feels like I have been working for so long because I am so comfortable there.
